Oxidized Bitumen 75/30 (Blown Bitumen 75/30) is a semi-solid grade of this category. R75/30 is produced by air blowing pure bitumen, that is Penetration Bitumen 60/70. In other words, Bitumen R75/30 is based on Penetration Bitumen 60/70 and produced by passing very hot air through it.
Oxidized Bitumen R75/30 is defined by two numbers which are softening point and needle penetration, respectively. For this grade, softening point is equal to 75 ℃ and needle penetration is equal to 30 desi-millimeter. These parameters are measured by test methods according to the standards of an international organization named ASTM.
The softening point and penetration degree are assessed due to the methods described in international standards ASTM D36 and ASTM D5, respectively.
Oxidized Bitumen 75/30 (Oxidized Bitumen 75/30 or R75/30) produced by PUB-LTD CO. is used in many industrial applications and operations. It has more rubber-like properties than previous grades; because of its special characteristics formed during the oxidation procedure. It is used in the production of special paints, civil engineering, construction, road construction, roofing, coating, flooring, as an anti-slip layer component, undercarriage sealant in the production of cars in the automotive industry, in the piling industry, electrical operations, cable, oil and gas pipelines coating, crack sealing, road repair operations, production of pulp papers, bituminous products, textile, joint filling compound, noise-reducing agent, dust proofing, waterproofing, lacquers, varnishes, pavements, as a fuel component, and in paving.
Furthermore, it’s used as raw material for adhesive, insulation, isolation bitumen membrane sheet, in special bitumen-based paints and varnishes to protect metal structures from corrosion, in hydraulic applications and operations, as a component in Portland cement pavements, as a base for synthetic turf and in the production of bitumen based rubber and recycling of plastic waste.
Heating bitumen for most of the final uses is a critical stage. Generally, the most important thing in this procedure is heat control. Temperature and heat control can affect various aspects of the product, including its quality. The safe and recommended maximum temperature is 230℃.
All oxidized bitumen is risk-free at below 100℃ during shipping operations. Oxidized Bitumen 75/30 needs potential energy and heat for flowing and to be discharged from the boiler. Heating and heat transfer should be controlled and perfect. Inappropriate heat transfer may cause overheating and release low flash vapors and these unwanted side products have a higher fire risk.
Moreover, melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler to cool down. Because this can cause overheating and needs more positional energy. Furthermore, placement and installing of any temperature and pressure monitoring and control devices is very important. Because if their placement is not right, thermometers can’t display the actual temperature, which can lead to poor monitoring and thermal conductivity.
Everyone who works in the blown bitumen (oxidized bitumen) plants should wear gloves, special protective masks and safety glasses. For more information, please refer to MSDS.
